“The Open-Source and LINUX service-provider ID-PRO AG, mainly
active in NRW to date, has extended its market presence in southern
Germany by opening a new branch in Frankfurt. The establishment
of a branch in Munich will be the next step.

“We see an enormous demand for independent consulting and
competent support centering on LINUX in the Rhein/Main region”,
Jens Jahr, head of Frankfurt’s ID-PRO branch, explained on
Wednesday (2000-01-19), when the office in Frankfurt was opened.
“We want to create our own centre of competence for all issues
related to IT-security in Frankfurt. In this area, in particular,
LINUX offers enormous advantages compared to proprietary software,
especially Microsoft products.”

“With more than 40 employees in Arnsberg, Bonn and Frankfurt,
ID-PRO is one of the leading providers of consulting and support
services for LINUX and Open-Source software, ”The development
model of Open-Source software, which LINUX is the most famous
representative of, offers huge advantages for commercial users
compared to proprietary software, as there is no danger of becoming
dependent on a single supplier. We would like to create a
nationwide interface to the innovations of the revolutionary
Open-Source movement for corporate and government users,” said
Daniel Riek, spokesman of the ID-PRO board, ”We are going to open
a new branch in Munich in Feburary. Further branches at important
German economic centres will follow by the middle of the year.”
