readers with a quick summary of each week’s most relevant Linux
security headlines and system advisories. It will be distributed

“…Linux security-related issues were plastered all over
the news last week. Most of the fuss created came from the Red Hat
Piranha package vulnerability. The problem was labeled a
“Backdoor,” but many feel that this term may be a little
severe.
The actual problem is that the default password for
Piranha (a web GUI admin package) is set to ‘Q’. Red Hat has taken
responsibility by releasing update information and packages. Many
also feel that the media has over reacted by comparing this to
Microsoft’s recent Frontpage 98 extention security problems.”
