“In a nationwide telephone survey two weeks ago [New York
Times/CBS News poll], 60 percent of the people who use a
computer at work or at home said that they had a favorable
opinion of Microsoft.
Most companies would envy such an
approval rating. But Microsoft is no ordinary company.

Just a year ago, 67 percent of computer users had a
favorable opinion of the company in a Times/CBS poll. And when the
same question, word for word, was asked in a Gallup poll in
October 1997, 73 percent
of computer users held a favorable
view of Microsoft.”

“Microsoft says that its own market research — using a somewhat
different methodology than the Times/CBS and Gallup polls — finds
no erosion in its public image. …its favorable ratings have long
held steady at 75 percent.”
