NY Times: Microsoft Flaw Can Be Exploited

“A Microsoft program used to run 1.4 million Web sites has a
major security flaw that can be exploited with a tool being given
away by the small software company that discovered the defect.”

“Microsoft has released a temporary patch to stop hackers from
attacking Web sites and possibly stealing credit card numbers and
other personal information, but critics say it’s already taken too
long for the company to fix the problem.”

“eEye, a little known maker of security software that reported
the defect to Microsoft late last week, said it decided to go
public and post its hacking tool on the Internet to force Micrsoft
to act more responsibly.”
