“The theme of this year’s Australian Unix and Open Systems User
Group (AUUG) conference, like many other conferences this year,
centres on security. Open systems go a long way to protecting a
business from the wilds of information threats, says AUUG treasurer
Gordon Hubbard.

“‘Often Unix systems are the gateway in a mixed environment,’
Hubbard says.

“‘Open systems tend to be more robust and resilient to viruses
and they have a role in protecting proprietary systems, because
they tend to be more immune…'”
