“No information security panoply is complete without open-source
systems guarding the approaches to the corporate sanctum
sanctorum.

“The theme of this year’s Australian Unix and Open Systems User
Group (AUUG) conference, like many other conferences this year,
centres on security. Open systems go a long way to protecting a
business from the wilds of information threats, says AUUG treasurer
Gordon Hubbard.

“‘Often Unix systems are the gateway in a mixed environment,’
Hubbard says.

“‘Open systems tend to be more robust and resilient to viruses
and they have a role in protecting proprietary systems, because
they tend to be more immune…'”
