“This month, I thought I’d take a slight detour to talk
about security. The Code Red worm and its sequels have been in the
news a great deal, and admins running *Nix servers and Apache might
be getting a little complacent in the security department, figuring
that all is well as long as they’re not running IIS.Don’t believe it for a minute. Sure, Apache is widely regarded
as being more secure than IIS, and it’s been a while since any
wholesale, dead-easy exploits for Apache have popped up in the
wild. However, because Apache has been the top-dog in the Web
server market for a very long time, you can bet there’s someone out
there trying to come up with a worm or exploit for it. As we’ve
seen in the not-too-distant past, worms can affect Linux.”
