BW: SGI Approves Ciprico 6500 RAID Disk Array as Linux-Compatible

“Ciprico Inc. is pleased to announce that the 6500 Series RAID
disk array is now SGI-approved as Linux-compatible. Ciprico’s 6500
is the only digital storage system from any manufacturer currently
approved as such by SGI. The approval completes the 6500’s
compatibility across the breadth of SGI’s product lines, which are
based on the IRIX, NT and Linux operating systems.”

“‘As of 1999, nearly 25 percent of servers shipped were
Linux-based, according to IDC (International Data Corp.),’ said
Robert H. Kill, Ciprico President and CEO,’ and analysts are
predicting that the Linux market share will continue to grow.
Both Ciprico and SGI are strongly committed to Linux-based
development to serve the needs of the visual imaging
industries.
While all Ciprico disk arrays are
Linux-compatible, we’ve gone the extra step to let our customers
know that our 6500 storage solutions have been fully-tested by SGI
in their Linux environment and have been approved for their
outstanding performance. With Linux interface technology advances
now underway, we’ll soon be able to say the same about our Fibre
Channel products as well.'”

“Ciprico’s 6500 Series RAID Disk Array is an economical
hardware-based RAID storage system containing standard desktop
(IDE) drives and providing a 40 MB/second SCSI interface. Rather
than choose a comparably-priced striped-drive storage solution,
many customers choose the 6500 as a better alternative because it
offers the additional benefit of data redundancy in a hardware-RAID
system.”
