“Increased availability of new products supporting the Linux
operating system, especially on the data-storage front, may not
always lead directly to increased sales of hardware to small
and midsize businesses, said resellers. However, such products
indirectly support resellers’ sales efforts by bringing more
visibility to Linux.
In general, Linux does not have a lot of problems with
compatibility or support, said Kent McNall, president of Apropos
Retail Management Systems Inc., a Lynnwood, Wash.-based reseller of
Linux-based PCs, servers and point-of-sale (POS) systems. While
announcements of vendor support help sell Linux systems, there is
no direct correlation, said McNall. ‘However, the fact that all
these companies are coming out with Linux support helps raise
awareness of the operating system.’ “
“A number of vendors took advantage of the LinuxWorld Conference
and Expo, held last month in New York, to introduce
Linux-compatible storage products.”
