“On any given day, data backups are not really the most
glamorous part of our job descriptions, but protecting critical
data is one of those things that we must do. Linux, for the most
part, does not really have many tools to work with tape devices
(except for the native tar, cpio, dump, mt, etc. This is not to say
that there are not some very good commercial tools available,
because there are. We are reviewing one such tool today. It is
TOLIS Group’s flagship product, the BRU-Pro backup and recovery
utility.

“Like many backup and recovery tools, its function is very
simple yet important. It is a tool used to make sure our data is
backed up and stored on a tape device… so in the event of a
catastrophe, our data can easily be returned to us without
harm.
