“As Linux grows in popularity, so do storage options. But
application support and compatibility among different versions of
the open-source operating system are seen as vital.”

“The Linux storage market, valued at $50 million, is estimated
to grow annually at a rate of 66.6 percent from 2000 to 2003,
according to a study by researchers IDC.”

“But for Linux storage to achieve that growth rate, applications
such as data protection and Web servers must support it, said
Sabrinath Rao, product manager at Computer Associates….”

“The challenge EMC and other vendors face in terms of storage is
how quickly the industry adopts [Linux],” said Mele. “Secondly,
there is the challenge of integrating all the features that
customers want and need into Linux.”
