VARBusiness: Linux Nudges Into Storage

Thanks to David S for this

“No longer a hacker’s OS, Linux is the latest request from

“Things have changed in the past three or four months,” says
Darrin Johnson, engineering manager at Adaptec Inc., a Milpitas,
Calif.-based maker of storage hardware. “Today, it’s not just the
customers requesting support for Linux. It’s the OEMs as well.
We’ve had requests from all our top OEMs that we support
Linux.”

“Linux is no longer a hacker’s OS. Most of today’s Linux users
are meeting real needs in their enterprises, rather than
experimenting with a free OS. Linux installations aren’t
necessarily small, either. Linux is actually at its weakest as a
desktop OS and is much more popular as a server OS, often for
applications that require huge amounts of storage.”
