LinuxPorts Introduces Case Studies to the Consultants Howto

Thanks to {poet} for
this announcement.

LinuxPorts
introduces case studies to the Consultants How-To:

As LinuxPorts continues to evolve the Consultants Howto we have
added case studies. The purpose of this is to provide not only a
place for a listing of Linux Support Professionals but also a place
where someone seeking support can find answers to problems that the
consultants have faced. We hope that this new addition to the
Consultants Howto is a welcomed and useful one.

Case study format:

  • Case studies are to be submitted in text format.
  • There is no requirement or limitation on length, usually 1.5 –
    5 pages is acceptable.

Writing the case study:

The case study must include the following sections, in the
following order:

  • Consultant Company Name
  • Consultant Contact Name
  • Title of case study
  • Brief description of case study
  • Problem
  • Solution
  • Issues that you encountered with the solution. These can be
    positive or negative…

Examples:

  1. While installing IP Masquerading we were unexpectedly required
to add support for PC Anywhere, therefore we had to use Port
    Forwarding as well.
  2. Due to a missing module in the default RedHat 6.0 install we
had to recompile the kernel and modules.
  • Why you chose the solution you chose

Examples:

  1. Why did you use Samba to share printers vs… LPR for WinNT or
    Novell Client Services for Linux?
  2. Why did you choose to use IP Masquerading versus a factory box
    like the Ascend Pipeline 50.
  • End Result

Submitting the case study:

Currently the only way to submit the case study is to
email poet@linuxports.com.
We are considering other options including allowing you to just
submit it to the database, however we have some limitations there
that we are not sure if we want to address quite yet.

Please contact poet@linuxports.com if you have
any further questions!
