Applix Announces Applixware for Linux On the Power PC Platform and Bundling Deal With LinuxPPC Inc.

WESTBORO, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jan. 19, 1999–Applix Inc.
(NASDAQ:APLX – news), a leader in front office business solutions,
today announced support for a new platform for its market leading
suite of decision support applications. Applixware, Applix’s
integrated office suite, will run on Apple’s Power PC based
computers running the Linux operating system. In addition, Applix
will be selling the product with a bundled version of LinuxPPC’s
Linux operating system.

“We have been inundated with requests from users that are
running Linux on Apple Macintosh computers for a full featured
integrated office suite,” said Richard Manly, Director Product
Management at Applix Inc. He continues“this is a rapidly growing
Linux platform that clearly needs an office suite which will enable
users to run Linux full time on Apple computers without booting
back into the MacOS.”

Applixware is a graphical suite running natively under Linux and
includes Applix Words, Applix Graphics, Applix Presents, Applix
Spreadsheets, Applix Mail, Applix Data, Applix HTML Author and
Applix Builder, a visual, object oriented, rapid application

Applix and LinuxPPC have entered an agreement to provide a
bundle of their OS and the Applixware suite in one box providing a
single installation of both Linux and Applixware.

“We felt that the combination of Applixware and LinuxPPC would
be extremely attractive to new users looking to start running Linux
along with a quality office application in place of their current
MacOS based environments,” said Jeff Carr, President of LinuxPPC
Inc.

Pricing for the product is $129 and is available from 1st
February 1999 from Applix’ online store at http://linux.applixware.com
