MOSCONI CONVENTION CENTER, BOOTH 1291-(August 28th,
2001)-CodeWeavers, Inc., a leading Windows-to-Linux
software developer and consultancy, announced today the release of
CrossOver Plugin, the first Windows-To-Linux adapter for Windows
browser plugins and email viewers. The product, unveiled at
LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2001 in San Francisco, enables users
to access popular Windows files and plug-ins in Linux, and gives
them a new level of convenience and productivity when working in
the Linux environment.
CrossOver Plugin is an exclusive CodeWeavers product designed to
operate in conjunction with Wine, the well-known open source
Windows API (Application Programming Interface) maintained by the
company. CrossOver Plugin allows seamless use of Apple QuickTime
and Macromedia Shockwave Director on most Linux Web browsers
including Netscape and Mozilla; what’s more, the adapter allows
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and eFax email viewers to be used with
Linux email clients.
“CrossOver Plugin puts two of the most valuable multimedia
plugins in the Windows environment onto the Linux desktop,” said
Jeremy White, founder and president of CodeWeavers. “It also gives
business and professional users new flexibility to download and
read Microsoft Office and eFax files without the need for a
separate Windows platform. CrossOver Plugin is a key component in
the drive to give companies a practical, user-friendly Linux
solution.”
Using proprietary extensions developed by CodeWeavers, CrossOver
Plugin interfaces between the Windows application and Wine in order
to allow the application to run correctly in Linux. The software
supports many common Linux email clients such as Netscape, GNOME
Evolution, KDE Kmail, and others. Future versions of CrossOver
Plugin are expected to support virtually all Windows plugins and
file viewers.
Available at LinuxWorld
CrossOver Plugin is immediately available for download from the
CodeWeavers Web site, www.codeweavers.com, at a price
of $19.95. A CD version, priced at $29.95, will be ready for mail
order purchase in early September; however, CDs are now available
to LinuxWorld Conference and Expo 2001 attendees at the CodeWeavers
booth.
CodeWeavers is also offering SDKs for CrossOver Plugin as well
as licensing agreements that authorize use of the software in
embedded applications. For more, visit CodeWeavers at Booth
