ComputerWeekly: Network Associates develop VIPER technology

“Network Associates said it has developed an anti-virus
technology that can be embedded into e-business applications,
Internet appliances and other systems, hoping for a large market as
companies deal with a myriad of online security issues.”

“The Virus Interface for Protective Early Response (VIPER)
technology has been granted a US patent. It is based on a component
object model interface is that allows a virus scanning engine
featur es to be invoked from any calling application. This would
allow other companies to build support for VIPER in products such
as e-business applications, scanning Internet e-mail traffic and
web server downloads for malicious code.”

“The company is offering a VIPER toolkit for all major
operating systems including Windows 98, Windows NT, Solaris and
Linux.”
