“In this week’s issue of Kernel Traffic, article 5
describes how Alan Cox has decided he has no time for maintenance
of the 2.0 source tree, even though a serious security hole was
recently discovered in 2.0.38.
It was in the course of discussion over that weakness that David
Weinehall asked Alan to release a 2.0.39 with just that
security fix applied. Alan refused, saying he had no time to work
on 2.0, 2.2, and 2.3; he said David could take over 2.0 if
he wanted.
David took up the challenge, and shortly thereafter Linus gave
his blessings and aadvice for the project. The upshot is that there
are now three separate official maintainers of the Linux kernel:
Linus Torvalds, Alan Cox, and now David Weinhall.
Welcome, David!”
