Eric S. Raymond, one of the driving forces behind the OpenSource software movement and a member of the inner circle of the Linux operating system development team, will be speaking on Monday, March 22, 1999 at 7:00pm at the Sunburst Resort, 4925 N. Scottsdale Rd. His talk is being sponsored by PLUG, in cooperation with PHXJUG, ASULUG, AZIPA, and AZSAGE. Coffee, tea, and facilities provided by Sun Microsystems. Eric's credentials are impressive. He is not only a dynamic speaker, but also the author of "The Cathedral and The Bazaar" and several other papers on the OpenSource movement which were instrumental in convincing Netscape to release their web browser under an Open Source license. His talk will be on "The Open Source Revolution -- How Software Engineering Might Finally Grow up." If you don't already know about Linux and OpenSource software, this is the perfect opportunity to learn about this rapidly growing and accelerating phenomena which is changing all the rules of the game in computer operating systems, software development, and the internet. Doors will open at 6:30pm and the program will begin promptly at 7:00pm. Eric Raymond - The Open Source Revolution Monday March 22nd 4925 N. Scottsdale Rd. Eric Raymond <<a href=http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr>http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr> is both a member of the Linux inner circle, and also someone who has been able to step back and study OpenSource development methods and explain how and why they work and how and why they work so well. OpenSource software does not just include Linux - among many other notable projects, it also includes Apache, which is an OpenSource web server which runs about 70% of the World Wide Web servers in the world. Eric has written several papers on the OpenSource movement, and his papers were cited by Netscape as the reason why they released the source code to their web browser and put it under an OpenSource license. The next version of Netscape Navigator (5.0) will be an OpenSource version. Whether you are a Linux user or not, Linux and OpenSource software are rapidly changing the world - and you will be hearing more and more about them. Here is your chance to hear it direct from one of the principal people behind this growing and accelerating movement. Two of Eric's best known papers are: The Cathedral and the Bazaar <<a href=http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar.html>http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar.html> Homesteading the Noosphere <<a href=http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/writings/homesteading/homesteading.html>http://www.tuxedo.org/~esr/writings/homesteading/homesteading.html>
