“Christmas is coming soon, and then the new millennium. Of
course in the computer world, the first thing people think about
when they hear about the millennium is the Y2K bug. This bug has
been the most publicized and hyped one in recent history. According
to the media, computers will start to crash and behave in various
inconsistent manners when the clock turns to Jan 1st, 2000. We also
hear about all of the Windows patches for Y2K readiness, and about
all of these companies spending millions to fix this bug. Let’s
look at what this really means for the Linux world.”
“In this article I will first talk about the technical
reasons why this Y2K bug exists, and how Unix (and Linux) differs
from Windows. Then I will talk about the most popular Linux
distributions and programs, and which statements they have issued,
if any.“
