“When I finally got to the show, I tried digging around for more
details on Red Hat’s desktop plans, as well as Sun, KDE and a few
others. I bumped into a few unexpected surprises–Emperor Linux,
the OSEF and a couple of others. And I landed a juicy tidbit about
a possible Aqua port of OpenOffice.org. Read on for more
details.“KDE’s booth was marked 676 on the show floor map but they
weren’t there. I asked around and walked around trying to find them
but nobody seemed to know what had happened to them. So I’ll try to
do a follow up to find out why they weren’t at the show. As we
noted yesterday, Xandros and Lindows were also missing in action.
I’ll follow up with them as well.“The OpenOffice.org booth was less congested after yesterday’s
initial stampede. So I was able to speak with William Backman, a
network administrator and volunteer with OpenOffice.org. Seems that
an Aqua port for Apple’s OS X is in the works. A lot of work is
being done behind the scenes, so it seems that Mac users will have
something special to look forward to soon. I also learned why OO is
also referred to as OpenOffice.org rather than just OpenOffice.
