Linux.com: The future of gaming on the Linux platform

“Where is gaming on the Linux platform going to end up?? Most
games today are being mass-produced for the W32 platform until
recently with the help from companies such as Loki Entertainment
Software and a few other game manufacturers. Loki establishes
contracts with commercial entertainment software companies, and
ports their popular software to Linux. Entertainment software for
Linux operating system is still new and, unfortunately, is not wide
spread yet, leaving the market wide open to introduce such
applications. As the use and implementation of Linux grows, so
will the demand for games. Without companies such as Loki, we will
never realize the dream of running popular entertainment software
on this powerful, stable operating system.

“Unfortunately, without support, gaming under Linux cannot
survive. Consumers must be aware of the availability of such Linux
ported software if they are going to buy it. With the introduction
of commercialized gaming titles into the retail channel these
companies have began to tap into this fast expanding market. This
is definitely a step in the right direction, especially for Loki,
who is going to be porting and producing the Linux version of Quake
3 Arena, that outstanding first person shooter from Id
Software.”
