“The Agenda is very well designed, and a joy to use. It is great
fun to have a handheld running the same OS as my desktop. It really
is Linux. There is a complete set of GNU like tools, which is
actually Busybox’s “Swiss Army Knife” of tools in a single
executable. It still feels the same, due to careful aliasing. By
default, the standard distribution runs a very small footprint
shell, ash. But Bash 2 is installed and you can easily configure it
to be your default shell by changing the /etc/passwd file.”
“A terminal is always a tap away, and everything is very
configurable, especially if you are willing to get down and dirty
and edit text files. More about that in the hacking section.”
“IRDA allows a wireless PPP connection to be made with any
machine with a IRDA compliant IR port. If you want to do something
really useless but neat, you can port palm-link to MIPS and hot
sync your PalmPilot with your Agenda! The port’s raw IR allows for
“learning” IR universal remote applications like Omniremote for the
Palm.”
“Since the Agenda runs XFree86, you can run applications on the
Agenda and display them remotely on your desktop machine. Or you
can display them wirelessly on your IRDA laptop. Or you could
display them remotely via IRDA on another Agenda. Why? Well,
because it’s fun, of course!”
