In what may be a robotic coup for Linux users, Loki
Software has announced an agreement with CogniToy to bring
MindRover:The Europa Project to Linux gamers by Fall,
2000.

“Founded in 1997, CogniToy is a privately financed independent
developer and publisher of “intelligent toys for intelligent
minds.” MindRover is the company’s first product. Currently
available only for Windows machines, MindRover has so far been
immensely popular among a number of gaming sites.”

“MindRover is a 3D strategy and programming game in which
players create autonomous robotic vehicles for competition in
races, battles and sports. According to CogniToy, players start
with an empty vehicle and add components such as sensors, weapons
and engines; they then wire together the components and utilize
their programming skills by setting properties and gearing up for
competition.”

“The premise of MindRover: The Europa Project is that you’re a
new arrival on far away-Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons, and that
you’re feeling a little homesick,” wrote reviewer Edward Zybul in
sharkyextreme.com. “For some reason, the cure for this is to build
a bunch of robots out of a wide array of types and components, wire
them to work the way you want them to, and turn them loose in
competition against other computer- or human-designed
vehicles.”
