“HancomLinux, a Linux expert developing and
distributing Linux applications, has announced that they have
concluded an agreement with the Central Procurement Office of the
Korean Government to supply 120,000 copies of desktop Linux office
packages in this year.Total 120,000 Linux office packages for the desktop computers
are equavalent to 23% of annual Windows based PC procurement. By
the aggressive adoption of the Korean government, Hancom is said to
start massive promotion and setting up the nationwide support
network for the governemnt agency.Mr. Dongkun Lee, the chief of the central procurement office who
has led this contract said, “the purchase of this Linux office
packages in the government will bring to us more than 80% of cost
saving compared to buying exclusive softwares produced by
Microsoft. We hope that this might be a good start to pump up the
Linux vendors to maintain technological competnece”
