LinuxWorld: Indigo Magic Desktop for Linux

“As an old SGI-Irix fan, I am distressed at watching the recent
fortunes of SGI go from bad to worse. Alas, the once-great Unix
company’s ultimate fate is far from certain, but there is no
denying that it looks grim. So grim, that these days I no longer
despair of ever seeing the once-promised Intel port of Irix — but
despair instead of being able to keep my MIPS-based Irix
environment.”

“That is why it was with such great joy that I lately discovered
a site on the Internet dedicated to the Indigo Magic Desktop (IMD)
project for Linux.”

“For I am also an old Linux fan, old enough that the first GUI I
ever used on Linux was plain old X (and glad I was to have it,
too).”

“The project to port IMD to Linux resides at 5dwm.org and is run
by Erik Masson, a geek from Quebec who has been living in Hong Kong
for the past seven and a half years. With a background in
architecture (buildings, not computers) and computer science, he
makes his living by building mission-critical systems for
e-commerce.”
