“Hewlett-Packard Company today announced technology
contributions to the open-source community and a full suite of
Linux classes for IT professionals.
Today’s introductions build on the recent announcement that HP
OpenMail messaging technology would be ported to the Linux
operating system.”
“HP intends to open source key elements of its e-speak and
OpenMail technologies, such as e-speak’s core components and the
OpenMail OMGUI… HP also has contributed enhancements to the
popular Squid proxy-caching software and is providing backing for a
site housing more than 1,500 open-source HP-UX tools. HP… has
been open sourcing its HP-UX debugger since 1997.”
“HP also unveiled an expanded portfolio of educational
courses for Linux. As more applications are ported to Linux,
trained administrators and managers become more critical. The new,
integrated learning model for Linux courses offers a wide array of
topics and targets various areas of expertise, ranging from
operating system and application integration to administration and
security.”
“SourceXchange.com is another example of HP’s open-source
commitment. HP initiated www.sourceXchange.com, a Web site for
open-source development with Collab.net, an affiliate of O’Reilly
& Associates. SourceXchange improves the predictability of
open-source development projects by paying developers for their
work, simplifying the business relationship between sponsor and
developer, and providing quality control through a peer-review
process.”
