“I’ve had a PowerBook G4 for a while now and never
really had the change to install Linux on it until this past week.
And to honest I didn’t even think that they would have kernel
support for the Titanium yet anyway since Apple seems to be the
“odd-man-out” when it comes to Linux development. Boy was I
wrong…..My distribution of choice was Yellow Dog Linux from Terra Soft
Solutions. Adam and I had the opportunity to speak a bit with the
co-founder and CEO Kai Staats of Terra Soft Solutions at the
MacWorld Expo in NYC last month and I must say I was impressed. Not
only was I impressed with their 2.0 release but the new hardware
they rolled out that day as well.Yellow Dog Linux is a very robust distribution based heavily on
the Red Hat x86 distro. With two big differences, it’s uses a PPC
kernel (obviously), and the default installation is much more
secure than Red Hat’s distribution. Yellow Dog leaves all ports
turned off by default leaving it up to you turn on which services
you plan to use for your particular application.”
