TechWeb: McNealy Tees Off On Linux, Microsoft

“Tuesday, McNealy said his company, which develops and markets
its own high-end Unix, Solaris, feels no need to respond to Linux,
the open source-code variation of Unix that is riding the crest of
a popularity wave among developers.”

“Linux is “a great way to get to the wrong answer” and is
certainly better than getting there by paying Microsoft’s “usury
fees and monopolistic” prices for Windows and using “CaptiveX,”
McNealy said.”

“Some Sun customers develop in Linux and deploy on Solaris, he
said, and that is “fine by us.” Unlike other Unix players such as
Hewlett-Packard and IBM, Sun, in Palo Alto, Calif., has unveiled no
plans to support Linux on its hardware.”
