“The game uses a modified Quake 2 engine, a fact prominently
displayed on the back of the box. But don’t let this fool you. The
game plays more like a Tomb Raider title than like a Quake game.
The view is from an over-the-shoulder chase-cam, and the battery of
movements include crouch-rolls, back-flips, ledge-climbing, and
pole-vaulting. Controls are complicated enough to warrant a
tutorial level (one which has a surprising amount of hidden areas
and items in as well.)…”
“The Linux version runs at a fairly high frame-rate right out of
the box, whether you use software or OpenGL rendering. Its
installation is quick and easy, and automatically sets itself up
for use in a number of different window managers (including FVWM,
which was a pleasant surprise!)”
“Unfortunately, the Linux version is also one of the most
bug-ridden programs I’ve ever encountered. You can count on the
software crashing at least once per game, and occasionally
spawning a system consuming run-away process. In some areas of the
game, you can expect it to crash regularly, making certain
sequences frustrating to get through.”
