“Bluefish is a web development application written in GTK,
designed to save keystrokes for developers. It features ‘multiple
file editor, multiple toolbars, custom menus, image and thumbnail
dialogs, CSS dialogs, PHP, HTML, Java, C, and XML support, external
program integration (tidy, weblint, make, javac), and lots of
wizards.’

“This latest release is a port to the gtk2 libraries. Binaries
and source for Bluefish-gtk2 version 0.8 were announced December
12, 2002. They are available for redhat rpms and .deb packages. Two
new features web developers will be interested in learning more
about are the syntax highlighting customizable with PCRE and the
New file selector.

“Bluefish is similar to other text editors such as Quanta,
Slickedit, KWrite, Vi(m), jedit, Emacs, and many other options.
This application is not a WYSIWYG editor nor an IDE but an
alternative to applications such as the KDE-based Quanta
application. However, the customization, ability to add external
commands, and the thumbnail generator makes this editor extremely
powerful…”
