“Just days after US Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson delivered his
order for Microsoft to be split into two separate companies earlier
this month, US computer giant IBM moved to give a boost to
Microsoft’s key rival.”
“In a move allowing it to diversify on operating systems,
IBM said it will be installing software of competing manufacturer
Linux on its ThinkPad notebook computers.“
“IBM will also use Linux operating systems on a number of IBM
Internet servers, including the all-powerful RS/6000, the company
said in a statement that caught the attention of Wall Street.”
“As many as 90,000 IBM distributors will be trained in Linux
technology “to support development of Linux applications,” IBM
said, making the announcement on June 12.”
