Wired: Call It the U.S. Open Source

“Portly penguins aren’t usually associated with a high-speed
game like tennis. But Linux’s favorite mascot will be a very
noticeable part of the U.S. Open next week.

“The open-source operating system will be center court, running
the tournament’s major information systems and moving data around
the world.

“This isn’t the first time that open-source systems and software
have been used to power Web servers used to store and process data
at sporting events. But this year, for the first time ever at a
major sports event, according to IBM, Linux will also be used in
very high-profile ways…”
