Wired/Reuters: Corel Needs New Plan

“Canadian software developer Corel must find a new cure to
resuscitate its moribund business now that its largest-ever
acquisition has been killed, analysts said.”

“They suggested that if the embattled firm cannot quickly revive
its business, the company may be forced to sell off its operations
as a whole or in parts….”

“Corel is caught in a Catch-22, said Jean W. Orr, analyst at
Bluestone Capital Partners in New York. The company desperately
needs new technology to generate sales, but to fund that
development it must first turn a profit.”

It’s in danger of becoming history,” said Orr, a long-time
Corel analyst. “Three or four years ago they were chasing too many
things … now the initiative is in the Linux area and I think that
is too narrow.
