“We looked at two products in this review: Cobalt’s CacheRaQ 2
and a relative newcomer from an unlikely partnership between
Quantex and Novell, called the WebXL. Both boxes are small,
rack-mounted appliances aimed at either accelerating client access
to the Web or accelerating server response times to Web-based
requests.”
“We tested each box by placing it between a 10-node test network
comprised of mostly Linux or Windows NT Workstation clients on one
side and a Compaq ProLiant 1850R Windows NT Server running IIS 3.0
on the other. Clients established between 10 and 30 server script
sessions, which we had them run in a loop for 20 minutes at a time.
Performance numbers between the two products were similar, though
both beat the noncached run by well over 35 percent.”
“The CacheRaQ 2 is a relatively inexpensive rack-mount product.
Though it carries a good selection of features aimed at ISPs
and busy e-commerce centers, the CacheRaQ 2 doesn’t seem to be
targeted at the high end, mainly because its built-in WAN
interfaces only scale up to T1 performance speeds.“
