32BitsOnline: Book Review: Linux Programming

The Linux operating system is a very rewarding one for
people who want to program; but where do you start?
Patrick
Volkerding has written a book called “Linux Programming” that aims
at telling you about the possibilities you have under Linux.”

“This book opens strongly by saying “With this book and CD-ROM,
you’re ready to install Linux on your PC and create applications in
a variety of languages.” The book is written by Patrick Volkerding,
Eric Foster-Johnson and Kevin Reichard, and has a RRP of USD
$39.95. For the money you pay, you get almost 400 pages, and a
CD-ROM with Slackware 96 on it.”

“I must admit, I have a huge problem understanding the purpose
of this book. Evidently, you cannot teach people Perl, Java, TCL,
C, C++ and a few other programming languages in one book. The
book’s copyright is in 1997, so it is already starting to show its
age, as well.”
