“…DP: What sets SuSE apart from other
distributions?”

Wiegand: First, SuSE maintains consistent
technical quality throughout all platforms and all languages. We
also have an encyclopedic set of Linux tools, for which SuSE Linux
is already famous. Next, our graphical installer, YaST2, creates
ease of installation, but it is flexible enough to support a wide
range of installation options for the enterprise environment, such
as mass deployments or repeatable automated installations. Last but
not least, our excellent support. Our online web based support, and
a component database, comprehensive education programs, and
competent consulting form a unique combination that makes SuSE
Linux successful to both the enterprise and the desktop.”

DP: How high a priority is security for the
SuSE distribution? Do you have a team focused on making your
distribution secure and responsive to future exploits?”

Wiegand: We do not only have an internal
security team that audits all major packages and closely follows
all relevant information sources, but we also maintain an active
dialogue with our customer base, through mailing lists and security
alerts. Good relationships with the authors form an important part
of these precautions as well. In addition, security is also one of
the focal points of SuSE Labs.
