I can’t speak for other reviewers, but as I have spent
considerable effort in writing Linux distribution (and software)
reviews in the past I felt that I had to speak up.

“And no, I don’t write the reviews to get free software.”

“I started writing Linux reviews and articles soon after I
started CPUReview (a computer hardware site); to date I’ve written
more than two dozen articles about Linux for CPUReview.com and
AboutLinux.com – quite a few of those have been distribution
reviews. I’ve also written Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 articles,
and many hardware reviews.”

“Initially, I purchased all of the boxed sets that I was
reviewing; but after about a year I approached the main
distributions about getting review copies. Buying all those boxed
“deluxe” sets with the current pace of Linux releases gets
expensive real fast.”
