“Jabber.com, Inc., a subsidiary of Webb Interactive Services,
Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBB – news), today announced that Netpliance, Inc.
(Nasdaq: NPLI – news), a world leader and pioneer in the
information appliance and service market, has selected Jabber as
the foundation for its instant messaging (IM) and interactive
communications services. Under the deal, Jabber will provide
Netpliance’s i-opener 2001 Membership Pak with integration services
and a branded Jabber client for Windows users, thus allowing
i-opener members the ability to interact, message and chat with
other i-opener members and their friends and family that have
PCs.”

“Netpliance, the first mover in the information appliance market
space, offers simple one-button operation for accessing the
Internet and e-mail through i-opener. Netpliance is the all-in-one
provider of an appliance, software and service that combines
instant-on Internet access with interest-specific Internet content.
Through i-opener’s solution, consumers enjoy instant access to
e-mail, customized Internet content and Web browsing without the
difficulties of set-up, configuration or service provider contracts
associated with a personal computer.”

Netpliance selected Jabber as the foundation for its new
interactive service functionality because of Jabber’s open source
roots, platform flexibility, brandable clients and its ability to
provide enhanced and extended IM services through the use of XML
technology.
