AllLinuxDevices: MontaVista Receives Investment from Intel

“MontaVista Software, Inc., developer of the Hard Hat Linux
operating system for embedded applications, today announced it
received an equity investment from Intel Capital. The agreement
will help ensure that MontaVista’s software will take advantage of
the architectural benefits of the Intel XScale microarchitecture
and the Intel StrongARM and IA-32 processor families.
These
microprocessor architectures involve multiple business units within
Intel. Further details of the investment were undisclosed.”

“There is a tremendous amount of momentum for OEMs designing
products with the Intel StrongARM and Intel XScale
microarchitecture, just as there is demand for utilizing the Linux
operating system in these designs,” said Peter Green, general
manager of Intel Corporation’s Handheld Computing Division.
“MontaVista is an example of the type of company that can help make
Linux more widely used for embedded applications.”

“Said Jim Ready, MontaVista Software CEO, “The additional
capital will be used to help us to speed up the introduction of new
products and to expand our sales and support. We believe there is
strong market confidence in embedded Linux as an operating system
of choice for everything from small and emerging pervasive
computing devices to telecommunications infrastructure systems and
that open-source development is a solid business model.”
