“Following Acer’s diverted investment in Animeta Systems Inc.,
Mitac International Corp. announced on July 25 that two
professional software companies under the group had been launched
in Shanghai and aimed to develop products based on the Linux
framework.
The software sector is expected to undergo
structural changes after the hardware sector steps into their
business.”

“Mitac International President Francis Tsai said that the group
has recently invested several hundred thousand U.S. dollars into
each of the two Shanghai investments, and held 100 percent shares
in both companies. Responding to growing market demand, the two
companies will both apply the Linux framework to different hardware
platforms, such as servers and PDAs, which may be extended in the
future. As Shanghai has advanced technology and a wide pool of
software professionals, Mitac and many other companies from the
hardware sector are choosing the city as a base to expand their
software operation.”
