Anyone doing work with sound on Linux systems may find this of
interest…

The Audio-Quality-HOWTO version 0.0.5 has been posted to:

http://members.tripod.com/~slinkP/pw_linux/Audio-Quality-HOWTO.html

Sorry about the huge URL and the banner ads. This document will
eventually have a better home when it’s a little further along.

PLEASE CONTRIBUTE! Any information relevant to the HOWTO is
welcome.

The biggest question currently is: Should the
Audio-Quality-HOWTO continue to exist as a separate document, OR
should it be folded in to the existing Sound HOWTO? On the one
hand, the Sound HOWTO is well-distributed and is the obvious place
for all sound-related information. On the other hand, the
Audio-Quality-HOWTO is already getting a bit large… Opinions,
please!

List of topics now covered:

 1. Reducing Cheap Soundcard Noise
       1. Software
       2. Hardware
       3. When Nothing Helps
  2. Other Sound Quality Issues
       1. Garbage In...
       2. Dropouts
  3. Notes on Full Duplex Recording
       1. multiple soundcards
       2. lockups
  4. Audio CDs

  6. Testing Your Soundcard
  7. Shopping for Cheap Soundcards
       1. Drivers
       2. Cards that Sound Good
