“Open Source software by definition is a collaborative effort of
freely licensed software produced from the contributions of many
people. The Internet provides the fundamental connectivity needed
by Open Source projects. It links people to projects. Through the
contribution of code, web services, mailing list creation and
maintenance and many other ways, people turn Open Source project
ideas into Open Source project successes.”

In Northwest Glendale, Arizona, a unique Open Source
project is nearing critical mass . It has grown to the point where
its popularity and significance in contributing to a particular
need has reached a theoretical boiling point. The project aims at
delivering a hardware platform capable of becoming a launch pad for
an entirely new generation of Open Source software. It is known as
the MyLinux Pocket Linux Workstation (PLW) Project and is hosted by
Arizona Cooperative Power.

“Arizona Cooperative Power, whose motto is “Power to the
People,” is founded in a philosophy of power through cooperative
exchange. That philosophy created the MyLinux PLW Project. The
specific aim of the MyLinux project is simply this: Build a Linux
kernel-based portable workstation in a pocket-sized form factor.
The detailed goals of the project produce a system designed from
the ground-up as a Linux platform for Linux users by Linux
developers.”
