“It’s easy to build good Web sites that have cool content. The hard
part is figuring out how to monetize that content.

“For most sites, “monetization” translates to banner
advertisements, an advertising medium even the most gung ho
e-business supporter has to apologize for from time to time.
According to the industry research firm AdKnowledge, the average
banner ad rate dropped four percent to $33.75 per thousand views
during the 12 month period between ending December 1999 while the
number of ad-supported sites increased 140 percent to 3,350 during
the same period.”
