Broadway Video Application Software Joins Open Source
Movement

In the Linux tradition, the MPEG digital video application
software is made available on the Web in source form to all

MARLBORO, Mass., November 12, 1998 — Data Translation, a leader
in MPEG digital video products, today announced that the source
code for Broadway(TM), the full application video software, is now
available on the Web absolutely free under the provisions of the
GNU General Public License. The GNU license allows users to take
the source code and use it for their own application purposes and
then return any modifications that are made to the original
program. Effective today, users can obtain the code from the
Broadway Web site (www.b-way.com) and develop it to work
with their own applications, then, in the Linux tradition, pass it
on to others for further development.

“Data Translation recognizes and supports the movement toward
Open Source Software, and demonstrates this support by making
Broadway one of the first ‘peripheral hardware related’ software
releases to the Linux community,” said Fred Molinari, President and
CEO of Data Translation. “Open source proves to be a worthy
strategy for businesses to increase product development and
awareness,” Molinari continued. Up to now Broadway has been a
closed application for specific use under Windows 95/98 and Windows
NT. Users have asked for its use on a wider range of platforms and
for use under the Linux operating system. Data Translation has
decided to meet all these needs by allowing extensions to its
source code by any developer.
