“Retailer Embraces Telxon’s 11Mbps Spread Radio Technology.”

“Telxon Corporation, a world leader in delivering quality,
innovative solutions for mobile information and wireless
communications systems, announced today that it has received a new
contract to expand the roll-out of its high-speed wireless store
concept at Burlington Coat Factory stores across the country.”

“The new order, to supply Telxon mobile computers and IEEE
802.11b compliant 11Mbps wireless local area network (LAN)
architecture, will expand to over fifty the number of Burlington
stores equipped with a wireless LAN infrastructure offering
sub-second response time to its end-users. Burlington Coat Factory
Warehouse Corporation of Burlington, New Jersey, sells coats and a
wide range of other merchandise in 285 stores nationwide.”

“The wireless LAN system at Burlington features
Telxon’s OpenAirGATE and AirBEAM wireless network management
software running on a Red Hat Linux in-store software-based
system.
Each store is being equipped with Telxon PTC-960SL
mobile computers, wireless cash registers and fixed-position
workstations. In the stores where the system is currently
installed, Burlington is running multiple end-user mobile
applications, including receiving, price look-up, price changes,
and store transfers.

“Mike Prince, Burlington’s vice president and chief information
officer, said, “… Telxon’s total solutions approach has enabled
us to move closer to our goal of 100% wireless transaction
processing in all our stores.”
