“Bus-Tech, Inc., a leading supplier of data center controllers
to Original Equipment Manufacturers, announced today the Embedded
Linux Controller (ELC) development platform. Designed to speed the
development of network and storage appliances, the ELC combines a
high-performance RISC processor with an open PCI mezzanine
architecture. On board flash ROM loads MontaVista’s Hard Hat
embedded Linux software at power on, eliminating unnecessary and
costly standard PC peripherals (eg. hard drives, monitors, keyboard
and mouse).”

“Although we started the development of the ELC using pSOS as
the real-time operating system, we quickly moved to embedded Linux
to take advantage of the extensive driver and system software
readily available in the industry,” said Al Brandt, vice president
and general manager at Bus-Tech. “We selected MontaVista’s Hard Hat
Linux because of their superior support of PowerPC, which was the
key factor in evaluating embedded Linux options. MontaVista’s
professional services made the transition from pSOS to Hard Hat
very smooth.”

“Original Equipment Manufacturers developing leading edge
applications targeted at the network and storage appliance market
now have an open architecture platform designed with the bandwidth,
reliability and features required by the enterprise.
Based on
the Motorola PowerPC 740 RISC processor, the ELC supports 128 MB of
SDRAM and boots Hard Hat Linux from a 16 MB flash. The ELC provides
four (4) mezzanine PCI (PMC) expansion slots to allow manufacturers
to install a variety of connection types including LANs, WANs, and
storage interface adapters. Packaged in rack-mounted 1U chassis,
the ELC can be customized to address unique requirements.”
