“Linuxcare Inc., a leader in providing comprehensive services
for Linux and open-source software, today announced that it
developed SmartDisk’s FlashPath Linux device driver for SmartMedia,
making the FlashPath capabilities available to the Linux user
community. Linuxcare is also providing the complete range of Linux
services to SmartDisk including training, support services, and
device certification for the FlashPath software.”

“We are very excited to offer support for the Linux operating
system,” said Bob Protheroe, senior vice president, development and
engineering for SmartDisk. “As a low-cost, open, scalable, and
highly robust operating system, Linux is an ideal platform for our
FlashPath product. Linuxcare has been instrumental in helping us
support this endeavor. Linuxcare’s hands-on Linux expertise and
distribution-neutral position made them the vendor of choice for
us. We expect this to be the beginning of a collaborative
relationship between our two companies.

“We support SmartDisk’s Linux initiative wholeheartedly. We are
pleased to be able to help bring a popular digital appliance
adapter into the Linux fold and attract a whole new generation of
Linux computer users,” said David L. Sifry, chief technology
officer for Linuxcare.”
