“Compaq Computer Corporation and SuSE Holding AG today announced
a new release of SuSE Linux 6.1 AXP with enhanced interoperability
and compatibility features between Compaq Tru64 UNIX and the SuSE
Linux operating system. …will give users of both platforms
access to a broader portfolio of available applications.

For market segments such as high-performance technical
computing, Internet service providers and education, Linux provides
an attractive value proposition due to its low cost and superior
performance. Full interoperability and compatibility between the
two platforms is critical since many customers in these markets are
using Linux — while at the same time utilizing a more traditional
UNIX at the high end.

Compaq also announced the availability of additional Linux-ready
Alpha platforms, certified under SuSE Linux V6.1 AXP. The server
and workstation offerings complement Compaq’s previously announced
support for Linux on a full range of Compaq AlphaServers, ProLiant
servers and Professional Workstations.”
