“A new initiative from Fairfax-based Xybernaut Corp.
[NASDAQ:XYBR] and DCH Technology Inc. [OTC:DCHT] may see the
wearable computers produced by Xybernaut being partially powered in
the future by water.
Xybernaut and Valencia, Calif.-based DCH said they would
jointly develop a wearable personal computer that would run on
hydrogen-fuel cells. Recharging those cells would simply require
filling them with water, Xybernaut Director of Corporate
Communications Robin Bono told Washtech.com.
Currently, a single lithium-ion battery can power Xybernaut’s
wearable computer for 3 hours to 6 hours, depending on the
applications a user is running, Bono said. A second battery can be
hot-swapped – meaning that the computer doesn’t need to be shut
down to switch power sources – for a total of about 8 hours of
energy, she also said.”
“Xybernaut’s Mobile Assistant (MA) IV contains a
fully-functional Intel Pentium MMX processor, and either a
full-color flat-panel display or a XyberView head-mounted display
that can be equipped with an optional video camera. Other
accessories and software are also available. … The MA IV runs the
Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 and Red Hat/Linux operating systems,
among others.”
