Caché Database Software Launched for Linux

Thanks to J. Lucha for the
tip.

CAMBRIDGE, MA – Feb. 22, 1999 – InterSystems
Corporation today introduced Caché post-relational database
software for the Linux operating environment. InterSystems is the
leading provider of high performance database software for
transaction processing applications.

“Professional developers see the freeware Linux platform as a
great entrepreneurial opportunity…they’re clamoring for the
chance to build new Caché-based applications on Linux” says
Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems vice president of strategic planning.
“This is especially true for the start-ups that are creating
today’s most exciting Web applications, and in markets where
cost-effectiveness is a key technology differentiator.

“By making Caché available for the Linux environment as
well as on the major Windows and UNIX platforms, we’re expanding
opportunities for those who want to exploit the benefits of this
freeware operating system,” Grabscheid continues. “And, we’re
offering the single-user version of Caché for Linux at no
charge when downloaded from the InterSystems Web site to make it
easier for start-ups and individual developers to explore the
capabilities of Caché on Linux.”

Delivering Full Database Functionality

Unlike database products that provide limited functionality and
limited support on the Linux platform, Caché for Linux
includes the standard rich database feature set that has resulted
in fast adoption of Caché by professional developers
worldwide on other platforms. Key components include:

Caché SQL Server ¾ Delivers high-performance access to
Caché databases via SQL and ODBC, at speeds up to 20 times
faster than relational databases.

Caché Object Server-Provides direct
support of popular object technologies including Java, ActiveX, and
C++ and transparent storage of objects in a Caché
database.

Caché WebLink¾ Enables connectivity between
Caché and Web servers for Web-based transaction processing
applications.

Multidimensional Data Model-Provides efficient
handling of even the most complex data via a database engine
optimized for high performance transaction processing.

Pricing and Availability

The initial implementation of Caché for Linux is
available in the Red Hat version. Slated for general release and
for download from the InterSystems Web site in 2Q99, Caché
for Linux is offered in a standalone, single-user version at no
charge. Pricing for larger configurations ranges from Caché
Workgroup at $125 per concurrent user to Caché Enterprise at
$1,000 per concurrent user. In addition to Linux, Caché runs
on Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Digital OpenVMS, IBM AIX,
Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, Digital UNIX, Sun Solaris and other popular
platforms.
